It is important to take your child to the dentist regularly from the age of two years.
Encourage your child to brush their teeth twice a day with a child’s toothbrush and use a pea sized amount of children’s fluoride toothpaste.
Children should have their teeth brushed for them when they are young and should have supervised brushing until you are confident that they are able to brush sufficiently on their own. This is normally at the age of seven.
Tooth decay in teeth is affected by how much sugar is in the diet. Reducing the sugar in your child’s diet is the best way to prevent decay.
However, it is how often your child eats sugary foods (rather than how much) that is important.
It is a good idea to keep fizzy drinks, cakes and sweets to a minimum. Also don’t give your child sugary foods and drinks as snacks between meals or before bedtime.
